Thales has delivered the automatic fare collection solutions with contactless system using smart cards for the Circle Line in Singapore, the world's longest fully automated metro line.

Eleven stations were just opened in last April. Together with the first five Circle Line stations, opened in 2009, 16 stations are now operational. When completed in 2011, this fully underground line will be 33.3 km long with 29 stations.

Expected to serve some 200,000 people daily, the Circle Line will enhance the quality of commuting for the public, connecting homes, workplaces, social and cultural destinations, more quickly and seamlessly. The line will be a fully underground orbital line linking all radial lines leading to the city. Commuters using the Circle Line can now bypass the busy interchanges, get to the city and northern part of Singapore and also reach their destinations faster. The same holds true for those traveling from the north and north-east commuting to the city and the eastern part of the island.

The successful launch of the ticketing solution for the Circle Line demonstrates the excellent and longstanding relationship of trust between Thales and Land Transport Authority (Singapore Transport Owner & Regulator), which has already chosen Thales’s ticketing solution for the North East Line.

"We are delighted to work again with Singapore Land Transport Authority. Our transportation systems will enable it to meet operational requirements both today and tomorrow”, adds Jean-Pierre Forestier, Thales Senior Vice President, in charge of Transportation Systems: "This contract underlines Thales's ability to supply and commission transport solutions for operators worldwide.
